shoulder Flashcards
Neer’s`
Position: sitting or standing, arm into full flexion with overpressure
Positive= reproducible pain
passive impingement test
ROOS/Elevated Arm Stress Test
Position: patients holds bilateral full shoulder external rotation and abduction to 90 degrees for 3 minutes while repeatedly opening and closing the fists. AFTER completing the test, clinician quickly looks for objective changes and the patient’s subjective response.
Positive if: patient has increased pallor, cyanosis, swelling, vein distention, tingling, numbness, or pain. Compare the affected limb to the unaffected limb.
General compression of the neurovascular bundle
Hawkins/Kennedy`
Position:
Speed’s
Position: performed at 90 degrees or in extension, clinician palpates bicep tendon while resisting shoulder flexion (extended elbow and supinated forearm)
Positive= increased pain at biceps tendon/impingement
Adson’s`
Goal of test is to place neurovascular bundle and scaleni on maximum stretch.
Clinician palpates the radial pulse at wrist as pt takes a deep breath and holds it. The pt’s arm is abducted and extended and the pt extends and rotates the cervical spine toward the arm being tested.
Positive if: radial pulse is markedly decreased or obliterated & pt’s sx’s are reproduced. Test repeated with cervical extension and head rotated away from tested arm.
