Shoulder Flashcards
What lines the glenoid
Labrum (fibrocartilage)
4 ligaments of shoulder capsule
- Coracohumeral
- Superior glenohumeral
- Middle “
- Inferior “
What large tendon passes in the inter-tubercular groove
Tendon of Long head of biceps
Where do the glenohumeral ligaments sit in respect to humeral head
Anteriorly
Majority of shoulder dislocations are in what manner
Anterior/anteroinferior
4 rotator cuff muscles
- Supraspinatus
- Infraspinatus
- Teres Minor
- Subscapularis
Supraspinatus
Innervation: Suprascapular n. (C5/C6)
Origin: Supraspinous fossa
Insertion: Superior facet of Greater Tubercle (GT)
Function: Abduction (early)
Infraspinatus
Innervation: Suprascapular n. (C5/C6)
Origin: Infraspinous fossa
Insertion: Middle facet of GT
Function: Lateral rotation
Teres Minor
Innervation: Axillary n. (C5/C6)
Origin: Inferior border scap
Insertion: Inferior Facet GT
Function: Lateral rotation, mild adduction
Subscapularis
Innervation: Superior and Inferior Subscap n. (C5/C6)
Origin: Ant/Med border scap
Insertion: Lesser Tubercle
Function: Medial rotation, mild adduction
Deltoid
Innervation: Axillary n. (C5/C6)
Origin: Scap Spine (post), Acromion (lat), Clavicle (ant)
Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity
Function: Flexion (ant), abduction (lat), extension (post)
Teres Major
Innervation: Inferior Subscap n. (C5/C6)
Origin: Inferior angle scap
Insertion: Med lip inter-tubercle sulcus
Function: Medial rotation, Adduction, (Extension when flexed)
Coracobrachialis
Innervation: Musculocutaneous n.
Origin: Coracoid
Insertion: Med humerus (1/2 down)
Function: Flexion, Adduction, (weak med rot)
Pec major
Innervation: medial (C8/T1) and Lat (C5-C7) pec n.
Origin: Clav, sternum, ribs
Insertion: Lat lip inter-tubercular groove
Function: Adduction, Med rot
Order of Thorax muscles insertion on shoulder
PLT (Lat to Med)
Pec
Lat
Teres major
What is painful arc test
If pain in 60-120 deg abduction —> Supraspinatus tendon inflammation
Role of Subacromial (s.a.) and Subdeltoid (s.d.) bursae
It’s fluid filled and reduce friction between muscle and structures
Where is GT with respect to humeral head
Most lateral (basically edge/corner)
Where is LT with respect to humeral head
Lateral to head but medial to both groove and GT
What is the difference between the anatomical neck and the surgical neck of the humerus
Anatomical: Junction between the end of catilage on head and rest of bone (well before shaft)
Surgical: Proximal humerus but part of shaft
