What is meant by deprivation?
Deprivation is when an attachment has been made and it is broken
What are the causes for deprivation?
-mother going to hospital
- mother going to work
- divorce of parents
What did Robertson and Bowlby find?
A- what are the short-term effects on a child who is going through deprivation
P- naturalistic observation of coo;fren in care homes aged between 1-4
R - Protest- children show distress
Despair- children become calmer
De-attach- child develops coping mechanisms and show no interest when care giver returns
C- all children go through PDD model but he did acknowledge it was reversible
What did Anna Freud argue?
High quality care reduces deprivation so that a child doesn’t go through PDD
What did Robertson and Robertson find?
They conducted case studies on children and assessed their eosins for separation. If a child had high quality care they did not go through PDD
What did Rutter find?
The reason for serration is more important than the separation itself to the PDD
