Q

what is meant by the internal working model?

A

Create a schema for relationships based on attachment. If a mother is sensitive to your needs you create a schema that affects your future relationships.

Q

Who supports Bowlbys theory?

A

Bowlbys theory of attachment Is supported by Lorenz who separated geese from their mother and spent the critical period with them. This is a strength because it supports the idea of the significance of the critical period because they formed an attachment so it is a credible explanation of human attachment

Otoh- findings from geese cannot be applied to humans

Q

Who conflicts Bowlbys theory?

A

Bowlbys theory is conflicted by Fox who found that children is Isreal formed multiple attachments to both of their parents. This is a weakness because it conflicts the idea of monotropy which lowers the credibility of the explanation.

Q

How is Bowlbys theory useful?

A

Bowlbys theory is useful for when children are in hospitals parents can stay for longer to create a stronger attachment.

Otoh- socially sensitive-blames parents for children relationships in the future

Q

How can Bowlbys theory be tested?

A

One weakness of Bowlbys theory is that it cannot be tested because the research is post hoc. This is a weakness because we can’t empirically measure the cause of attachment which lowers the credibly of the explanation.
