Q

what is the story of an hour about?

A

mrs. mallard receives a telegram stating that her husband has died in a train accident. she is hysterical and goes up to her room and sits by the open window. she realizes she is now free from her husband and her marriage now that she is gone and is super excited (even though her marriage was not a bad one). the open window signifies her new found freedom. as she is going down the stairs she is described as “a goddess of victory” stating that she feels she has won her freedom. As she walks down the stairs her husband walks through the door and when she see’s him she has a heart attack and dies. this is an example of dramatic irony b/c because she is thinking she is finally free and then she is back to wear she started when she see’s her husband
