Q

What is constitutional delay of growth and puberty?

A

Term describes temporary delay in skeletal growth thus delay in height with no physical abnormalities causing this delay.

  1. Growth chart shows reduced velocit around age 6 months and 3 years
  2. May return to normal in childhood

Q

Prognosis of short stature? (2)

A
  1. Children with constitutional delay achieve normal adult height
  2. Children with chronic disease or endocrine def have ‘catch up’ growth - period of accelerated growth pushing them to achieve their genetic potential
