a reduced amount of thyroxine or none at all is produced from birth

ageneis/dysgenesis of the thyroid gland which is usually sporadic

A
- Considered ‘good’ as they sleep for long periods and decreased activity
- Poor feeding
- Constipation
- Hypotonia

- New born screening programme

A
Life long thyroxine is given

- irreversible cognitive impairement
- Short stature
- Macroglossia - puffy face
