Shock hazards Flashcards
1
Q
How is a shock hazard created?
A
When a current-carrying conductor contacts a metal chasis that doesn’t have a grounding conductor, the metal chasis will heat up
2
Q
What happens when someone touches a shock hazard?
A
Their body becomes grounding path for the current; shock
3
Q
How do you remove shock hazards?
A
By connecting a metal chasis to grounding conductor to earth ground
4
Q
How does the ground remove shocks?
A
Ground wire provides path to ground with less resistance than the path through a person’s body
(ensuring most of current goes through equipment ground)
5
Q
How small does a shock have to be to be fatal?
A
A current as small as 100 mA (.1 a)
