What was the aim? SHERIF
To test the idea that if you create an in group out group situation and then create conflict, prejudice will arise

What was the first stage? SHERIF
In group formation- each group had to carry out tasks to help them bond and establish norms- chose a name and flag
What was stage 2? SHERIFFS
Friction phase- after a week groups were made aware of eachother and conflict was introduced by have competition with prizes
What was the third stage? SHERIF
Integration phase- a super ordinate goal was introduced and the boys had to work together to overcome problems w.g fixing a water tank
What was a result in the first stage? SHERIF
the boys bonded and developed an in group preference
What was the result from the second stage? SHERIF
The competition led to immediate hostility e.g prizes were stole by the losing group
What was the result of stage 3? SHERIF
During initial contact there was still hostility but after a while the hostility was reduced
What was the conclusion? SHERIF
When two groups meet in competition prejudice and discrimination increase leading to inter group conflict
Low internal validity SHERIF
Could not be carefully controlled due to natural environment
