Shells Physics Flashcards
What component is shown in this symbol?
Buzzer
What component is shown in this symbol?
motor
What component is shown in this symbol?
lamp
If I increased the number of lamps in a series circuit but kept the battery the same what would happen to the brightness of the lamps?
They would go dimmer.
What does electrical conductor mean?
It allows electricity to pass through easily
What is an electrical insulator?
Something which does not let electricity through easily.
What does a variable resistor do?
Allows us to change the current flowing in a circuit.
What is a short circuit?
A circuit which contains no components other than a battery/cell and a wire.
Why are short circuits dangerous?
The large currents which flow can result in large amounts of heat energy being released.
What did we find out about the extensions of springs with different forces?
The extension is proportional to the force applied.
How can I work out the speed of an object if I know the distance travelled and the time taken?
Speed = distance / time
What type of circuit is shown here?
A parallel circuit.
Does current change as it moves around a circuit?
No, it is always the same.
Does adding more lamps cause them to go dimmer in a parallel circuit?
No, they stay the same brightness but the battery will go flat faster.
Does adding more lamps cause them to go dimmer in a series circuit?
Yes, the lamps get dimmer.
