This exclamation shows that sheila has quickly realised the inspector is shrewd and smart.
She knows they cant hide anything from him and that he knows all the answers and that all of them are involved.

Sheilas first response and reaction to the inspectors questioning is to accept her responsibility and part in eva smiths death
Although she is still worried about how it effects her, she acknowledges she played a role in eva smiths suicide

A

Sheila shows a great deal of emotional maturity here
Although she makes many sharp and sarcastic remarks at gerald throughout his questioning, she doesnt hate him. She just feels she cant commit a life long relationship to someone she doesn’t truly know. She doesn’t worry about losing a chance at a monopoly, unlike her father, who doesn’t actually care about the marriage, just its benefits

“Mother, i think that was cruel and vile”

A

[common noun-mother] shows sheila no longer views mrs birling as “mummy”. Shows a great deal of maturity and that she is no longer a child and should not be viewed as one.

She shifts from her initial child like behaviour and openly disagrees with her parents. She may no longer feel as close in relationship with her mother

“It didn’t end tragically…but it might’ve done”

A

Sheilas emotional maturity clearly develops throughout the play
Sheila shows she has learnt an important lesson from the inspector and the whole experience. She acknowledges that while Eva smith herself is supposedly alive, that is only a stroke of good luck and many others could be effected.
She learns a great deal and accepts responsibility, this shows the younger generation taking responsibility

“It frightens me the way you talk”

A

Sheila is more socially aware and upset by the families actions as the play progresses. By the end of act 3, she expresses her disgust in her parents views and acknowlages the consequnces these views could have.
