Shapes & Polarity (Test 2) Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the properties of shapes & polarity

A
  • COVALENT MOLECULAR ONLY
  • Has VSPR (Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion) theory states that the electron pairs are arranged as far apart as possible.
  • A lone pair has greater repulsion ability than a bonding pair.

Q

Properties of linear

A

Molecules with only 2 areas of bonding pairs of electrons around the central atom will be linear.
E.g. O2, F2
