Structure of Shakespeare sonnets
14 lines
10 syllables per line
Iambic rhythm
2 syllables- first=soft and second=heavy
*he used 5 iambs or two syllables in each line
Iambic pentameter
Penta=5 iambs
“Two syllable(soft and heavy step)
Rhyme scheme
Every other line at the end rhyme
3 quatrains and 1 cuplet
Sonnet
Came from sonetto which means little song.
Act I
Exposition: introduction to characters, settings and conflicts
Act II
Rising action/ conflict is introduced
act III
Climax: turning point. Drama takes place could be good or bad
Act IV
Falling Action: conflict between protagonist and antagonist..it’s clear who is the winner and loser
Act V
Denoumentor or resolution: Concludes the story..
Catharsis= Viewer experience are emotional at the end or you feel satisfied
Tragic hero’s
Suffering of innocent characters
Central character is a noble figure
Tragic flow
Might be excessive pride or passion imperfections that lead the otherwise noble hero to make choices that doom him or her to DEATH or TRAGIC END
Character foil
A character who used a contrast to another character
* used to distinct qualities of two characters*
Monologue
Long speech made by one actor to one or more characters on stage
Soliolgue
A speech made by a single actor who is ALONE on stage speaking to himself/her or the audience
