A
Muslim declaration of faith
Expresses the basic beliefs of Islam

Why is it important for Muslims?
A
Expresses core beliefs of Islam
Considered to provide the foundation for the other four pillars
Recited many times : First thing they hear when they are born (authentic hadith if u recite the Shahadah when u are just about to die you go to heaven)
To become a Muslim you have to sincerely recite the Shahadah in front of Muslim witnesses

They add ‘Ali is the friend of God’. This shows belief that Ali, Muhammad’s cousin and son-in-law, was the true successor
