What do Sunni Muslims do to observe the duty of Salah?
Pray 5 times a day or 3 times a day if u are a Shia
3 differences between Shi’a and Sunni prayer:
Sunnis fold their arms (right over left) - Keep arms straight and rest on thighs
Prostration Surface is on any clean floor or prayer mat but for Shi’a it will be a small clay tablet as they believe it is better to prostrate on natural elements
Shia Join Zuhr and Asr and Maghrib and Isha
Timings:
Just before Sunrise: Fajr
Just after Midday: Zuhr
Afternoon: Asr
Just after sunset: Maghrib
Night: Isha
Why is Wudu Important?
The purification of Wudu helps Muslims to fully focus on God in their prayers
What happens if water isn’t available?
Can wash with sand. Illustrates the fact that wudu is about becoming spiritually clean, not physically clean
How can you find the qibla?
Special Compass to indicate the direction
Mihrab, thing on qibla wall. Muslims use this to face the right direction
Why is the direction of prayer important?
Means that all Muslims are focusing on one place associated with God
