What is a shadow, and how is it formed?
A shadow is a dark spot made when something blocks light. It happens because light goes straight, and when an object stops the light, a shadow forms behind it.
What is the umbra?
The umbra is the darkest part of a shadow where no light can reach.
What is the penumbra?
The penumbra is the lighter part of a shadow where some light is blocked, but not all of it.
How does the size of the light source affect a shadow?
A small light makes a sharp shadow, while a big or soft light makes a blurry shadow.
How does the distance between the light source and the object affect the shadow?
When the light is close, the shadow is big and clear. When the light is far, the shadow is small and blurry.
How does the angle of light affect shadows?
Shadows are long when the light is low, like in the morning or evening, and short when the light is high, like at noon.
What are some everyday examples of shadows?
Shadows happen when the sun shines on things like trees or buildings. They change as the sun moves. Indoor lights also make shadows depending on how strong and where the light is.
