What are some of the major things pre-deployment plans used in preparation for a TACFAC?
MDMP, SOR, area study, site survey, area assessment, SOP debrief and retrieval system (SODARS)
What is a Critical Nodes Matrix (SWEAT-MSS)?
It’s a planning guide to provide a start point to establish a TACFAC
What are some aspects of the initial phase?
- Major concerns are basic survival needs and security
- low standard of living
- basic protective measures implemented
- inital facilities will either be abandoned or transitioned into the nest phase
What are some of the aspects of the temporary phase?
- New buildings are constructed
- potable water, HVAC, outhouses, and most buildings should be wired
- improved security and defense/fighting positions
- earthen berms and barriers
What’s a permanent phase look like?
- Has enclosed building complex
- incorporates PACE plan for water, electric, medical treatment, commo, personnel security, secure ammo and fuel storage
- improved security
What’s the heart of the TACFAC?
The inner perimeter, includes operational admin and logistics
What does the outer perimeter contain?
-most Host nation forces
Layers of defense positions, buildings and typically a 25m small arms range
What area is required during the initial phase?
Admin area, so that you can meet with host Nation personnel or tribal leaders without risk of compromising sensitive info in the inner perimeter
What’s a relief in place (RIP)?
- Relieving an established team
- that team needs to conduct 100% TACFAC inventory before new teams arrival
- provide checklist of state of TACFAC and items that need addressing, and info on projects and outstanding contracts
What are some characteristics of the HLZ needed in the inner perimeter?
Needs to be a size 4 to be able to fit a Chinook helicopter
