* especially fallopian tubes
Gonorrhea
- -Gram (-) Diplococcus
- -chocolate agar
- -MC symptom = dysuria
- -MC sign = green macopurulent discharge
- -MC joint affected = knee
- -MC sequelae site in men = testes = sterility && girls = salpingitis && newborns = blind
Chlamydia
- -cause Reiter’s disease & ophthalmia neonatorum
- cause PID in females while males remain asymptomatic
- *MC cause of female infertility
Syphilis

treponema pallidum
Syphillis how is it transmitted?
- -sex
- -&& via placenta
what is Syphillis associate with?
Hutchinson’s triad
- -interstitial keratitis
- -notched permanent incisors
- -CN VIII deafness
diagnostic test for Syphillis
--darkfield microscopy LABS: **VDRL --FTA/ABS --TPI
The 3 stages of Syphillis
- -1 Stage: Hard chancre that is singular and painless (<8wks)
- -2 Stage: Maculopapular rash, condylomata lata (f;at wart) & alopecia (8wk-2yr)
- -3 Stage: Tabes dorsalis, gummas, or vascular damage (aortic aneurysm or aortic valve insufficiency) no transmission during this stage (>25yr)
Trichomoniasis
parasite causes greenish, yellow, frothy, foul smelling discharge
Moniliasis (aka: Candidiasis)
–white cottage cheese like discharge seen in the mouth (thrush) or in the vagina: associated with diabetics & antibiotics
Lymphogranuloma Venereum
- -Affects lymph nodes in the groin
- -Produces rectal strictures
Granuloma Inguinale
–Presents as red, beefy lesions that are nodular and lead to ulcerations & are seen in the anogenital to perineal area
Genital Herpes
–vesicle clusters reoccur with decreased immunity or stress.
Genital Warts AKA: Condylomata Accuminata
–Papilloma (painful, soft, flesh colored, cauliflower erosion are linked to cervical cancer)
Chancroid
–Papules which become soft & painful (Frei test)
