Acne Rosacea
- -face, nose, checks
- -exacerbated by sunlight, caffeine, alcohol
Acne Vulgaris
- -condition of sebaceous gland
- -characterized by comedones and pus filled cysts
Actinic Lentigo
- -sun /liver spot
- -MC benign sun-induced lesion
Aphthous Stomatitis
–pitted erythematous lesion or ulcer in the mouth
Carbuncle
- -we call it a carload of furuncles
- -same organism & lesion location as a furuncle
Epidermal Cyst
–non-tender epidermal cyst that filled with sebum
Erythema nodosum
- -skin rxn
- -assoc w/ strep
- -characterized by bilateral, red, tender nodules
Erysipelas
- -organism is beta hemolytic strep
- -presents as a red fiery
- -advancing lesion on skin
- -patient will have fever & an elevated ASO titer

- -multiple hypo pigmented
- -asymp lesions vary in color from white to brown
furuncle
a staph infected hair follicle that presents as a painful nodule
herpes simplex
–HSV infection characterized by small vesicles “cold sores” located on the mouth or in the genital region
–can be reactivated during delivery
(Tzank test: herpes skin test)
herpes zoster AKA shingles
- -found in the dorsal root ganglion
- -vesicular lesions that follow the course of a dermatome
Ichthyosis AKA fish skin
–increased keratinization = non-inflammatory skin lesion
impetigo
- -organism maybe staph or strep
- -crusty lesion @ corners of the mouth on hands in kids
keloid
–dense, sharply elevated , progressive enlarging scar w/ collagenous hyperplasia seen in african-americans, latinos, and asians
Lichenification
–rough & thick skin d/t constant scratching of a pruritic; chronic dermatitis
Lichen Planus
- -inflammatory pruritic disease
- -characterized by papule w/ shiny, fine inconspicuous SCALES and whitish lines or puncta
Nummular Eczuma
- -discrete coin shaped
- -ring or annular lesion that coalesce to form patches which ooze and crust over
paronychia
- -tender bacterial or fungal hand/foot infection
- -where the nail & skin meet at the side
pediculosis
--caused by lice Lesion sites: --pubic: pubis --body: corporis --head: capitus
pemphigus vulgaris
–potentially life threatening condition exhibiting bulla (blisters) on the skin
pityriasis rosea
- -caused by a virus
- -exhibits a characteristic oval/round lesion called a HERALD PATCH
Psoriasis
silver scales on extensor surfaces of knees & elbows
scabies
transmissible (whirlpool) infection caused by mites & characterized by group vesicles & superficial lines furrow in the groin
