The main function of this system is to produce sperm that will fertilize the ovum.
Male Reproductive System
- The major organ used for intercourse and for urination.
- It is a long, cylindrical shaft with a cone-shaped tipped glans. These glans are surrounded by a foreskin that is optionally removed via circumcision.
Penis
It happens when aroused and the penis, which contains sensitive nerve endings, gets filled with blood.
Erection
Happens during orgasm when the penis becomes rigid, and it blocks the urethra for the semen (spermatic fluid) to be expelled.
Ejaculation
- This is a pouch-like loose skin that hangs behind and below the penis.
- This organ’s main function is to house the testes by maintaining the proper temperature needed for sperm development.
Scrotum
Primarily two oval-shaped organs that produce testosterone (male sex hormone) and are responsible for sperm production.
Testes or Testicles
The long-coiled tube on the back of the two testicles where sperm is transported to mature.
Epididymis
A long muscular coiled duct that connects the testes from the epididymis, reaching the pelvic cavity behind the bladder, to transport mature sperm to the urethra. It may carry urine or sperm externally.
Vas Deferens
The male gamete or reproductive cell that unites with the egg cell to form a zygote.
