Urethritis
Probability: Gonorrhoea or Chlamydia
Uncommon
- Trichomonas
- Mycoplasma Genitalium
- Viral (Adenovirus, H. influenza, HSV)
- Foreign body
- Reiters’ syndrome
- Trauma
- Ureaplasma Urealyticum
What is non-specific urethritis? (NSU)
Urethritis that is not gonorrhoea or chlamydia (strictly speaking it is urethritis where no pathogen is demonstrated)
What are incubation periods of gonorrhoea and chlamydia?
Gonorrhoea: 1-3 days
Chlamydia: 1-3 weeks
Both are notifiable diseases!
Genital ulcers causes
Probability: HSV, Syphilis
Other Infection
- Chancroid (ask overseas sex)
- Lymphogranuloma Venereum (ask overseas sex)
- Granuloma Inguinale
- Primary HIV infection
Other:
- Trauma
- Allergy
- Neoplastic
Genital Lumps ddx (not ulcers)
Probability: sebaceous cysts, other benign causes
Probability infection: Human Papilloma virus - warts
Other:
- Molluscum contagiosumm (usually in immunosuppressed)
- Scabies
- Skin Tags
- Epidermal cysts
- Seborrhoeic keratoses
Vaginal Discharge cause
- physiological
- bacterial vaginosis
- trichomonas vaginalis
- candiadisis
5 Ps of sexual history
Partners - regular, number, male/female
Protection - condom usage
Practices - oral/anal/vaginal/other
Prevention (trying or not trying to conceive) - other forms of contraception, possibility of pregnancy
