Age of consent
In the UK, the ‘age of consent’ for anyone to have sex is 16-years old.
Celibacy
Not having sexual relations at all; to be celibate.
Chastity
Keeping oneself sexually pure, for example waiting until marriage before having sex; being chaste.
Heterosexuality
Being physically/ sexually attracted to persons of the opposite gender.
Homosexuality
Being physically/ sexually attracted to persons of the same gender.
Adultery
Having an affair, a sexual relationship with someone you are not married to.
Contraception
Precautions taken to prevent pregnancy, and to protect against contracting or transmitting sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Family planning
Planning when to have a family and how big that family will be, by the use of birth control practices and/or contraception.
Procreation
Having a child; seen as a duty in many religions.
What does the Old Testament say about same sex relations?
The Bible teaches “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; it is detestable”.
This tells Christians that homosexuality is a sin.
What does the Golden Rule teach Christians?
The Bible teaches the Golden Rule of “Do to others as you would have them do to you”.
This tells Christians to treat other people as they would like to be treated.
What do Christians believe about procreation?
The Bible teaches “Be fruitful and multiply”, which tells Christians that they should procreate (have children), and not use contraception to stop this happening.
