What is an arranged marriage?
One in which the parents choose who their son or daughter will marry.

What is a forced marriage?
Where one or both people do not consent to the marriage or cannot consent to marriage. (People with learning difficulties or people who are under-age)
What is duress?
It includes psychological, sexual, financial, physical or emotional pressure. It is used to enforce the marriage.

What is adoption?
When a child who cannot be brought up with their biological family became full, permanent, and legal members of a new family. Anyone can adopt as long as they are over the age of 21, be a non-smoker and have a spare bedroom.
What is fostering?
When a child lives with another family for a while because their family can’t or are not able to look afternthem.
What is the care system?
When the council or local authority decidemit’s better for children to be away from their parents for a while. Children live in care for lots of different reasons such as abuse, neglect, family breakdown or a parent or child’s disability or illness.
What do Christians think about adoption and fostering?
It is the right thing as God teaches even though we are not all connected biologically, we shall still love each other in the same way we treat our families.

What is FGM?
FGM is the act of cutting some or all of a female’s external genitals, for non-medical reasons.
What are the three types of FGM?
Clitoridectomy - all of the clitoris is removed.
Excision - part or all of the female person’s clitoris and the lips surrounding the vagina are removed. The outer lips may or may not be removed.
Infibulation - outer lips and clitoris are removed and her genitals are stiched up so that she cannot have sex or have pleasure from sex. A small opening is left for the toilet. If she gets pregnant her genitals are unstiched and she gives birth and then she is sewn back up again.
