What is Ludwig’s Angina?
Bilateral infection of the submandibular space
What are the most common bacteria found in Ludwig’s angina?
Anaerobic gram negative bacilli- P. intermedia
Streptococcus anginosus
What bacteria are found in severe odontogenic infections?
S. Millerii (mixed anaerobe)
Staph aureus (gram positive cocci)
What is SIRS?
Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome
Temperature <36 or >38
Pulse over 90/min
Respiratory rate over 20 breaths/min
White blood cell count lower than 4 or more than 12
What is sepsis?
Life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by dysregulated host response to infection
What are the sepsis 6 for treatment?
Give high-flow oxygen
Take blood cultures
Give IV antibiotics
Give a fluid challenge
Measure lactate
Measure urine output
