- I indigenous (Aztecs and Incan) had large centralized states
- FE migrated (hunting)= so they didn’t claim territory

How did the English justify the occupation of lands previously held by natives?
–said they made productive use of the land whereas the natives used it as a hunting park
(settlers didn’t know that they hunted for survival, they thought it was a pastime)

NORTH AMERICA:
- clash with hunting grounds of natives
- the natives didn’t like treaty and English law so they raided and massacred
- the English raided them back
- in the end, they died from disease
LATIN AMERICA:
-the Spanish and Portuguese conquered the Aztecs and Incan without much fight back
