~ Ostensibly Nick Carraway is amazed by East egg as it seems magical due to the word choice of “glittered”
~However, the more he gets to them the more he realises that they are corrupt eg. when D kills M.
~ The “red bricks” further imply their violence
~ Daisy name meaning = her materialism made her choose T over G
West Egg
“A factual imitation of some Hotel de Ville”
~ conflict between EE vs WE and how this is actually conflict between Gatsby and Tom
~ WE lacks the refinement of EE
~ they are trying to be like the “old money” but they wont as they were not born into wealth and they worked for it
~ G parties are called a “menagerie” and he drives around in a “yellow circus wagon”
New York

~ At first Nick Carraway really enjoyed New York but then he realised that this was actually a place full of corruption and were people lost moral.
~ He was only drunk once before in his life yet, he gets drunk again when Tom invites him for a party with his lover.
~ Also a place where the affairs and the bootlegging business is prominent
~ Is the place where the heated arguement takes place
~ emphasises how corrupt the American society of the 1920s was
Valley of Ashes
“the valley of ashes - a fantastic farm where ashes grow… where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and… of ash grey men.”
“the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg are blue and gigantic”
~ This is a moral dumping ground of the upper classes. This is what America truly is without all of the money.
