Palaces has connotations of royalty, wealth, upper social class.
East egg - “indiscernible barbed wire”
showing the social barriers separating the two ‘eggs’ what not even money can penetrate
west egg - “the less fashionable of the two”
physically less superior than east egg. Home to the nouveau riche - new money
“a small eyesore”
Nick regarding his house. His poverty Is only assumed as his parents are actually “well-to-do” people
The valley of ashes - “ashes grew like wheat into ridges and hills”
industrial area between the two eggs and new york. Industrial wasteland. Poverty ridden.
“blue and gigantic”
“dumping ground”
The eyes are seen to represent God as this is often where a loss of morals occurs, coming from the eggs, passing through to New York.
The suite at the plate - “large and stiffling”
sniffling, possibly talking about the atmosphere in the room die to the attention from Gatsby, Daisy and Tom.
