What is the definition of heart failure?
A
State in which the heart fails to maintain an adequate circulation for the needs of the body despite an adequate filling pressure

What is the most common cause of heart failure?
A
Ischaemic heart disease (atherosclerosis of arteries)

A
Hypertension Dilated cardiomyopathy Valvular heart disease Restrictive cardiomyopathy Arrthymias

What is the LV end systolic volume and end diastolic volume?
What does this mean the ejection fraction is?
A
LV end diastolic = 150ml
LV end systolic = 75ml
This means the ejection fraction is 50%
(ie not all the blood is pumped out the left ventricle)

A
The force developed in a muscle fibre depends on the degree to which the fibre is stretched
