Cognitive dissonance ?
Cognitive dissonance is when someone says one thing but does another — like “I care about the planet” while chugging bottled water and flying every weekend. ✈️💅
That uncomfortable clash? That’s the tea. Instead of changing their behavior, they often change their beliefs to feel better — like, “Maybe it’s not that bad…”
Steps policy needs to take for behavior change according to the CCC report on behavior change
- policy removes obstacles for people & market
- public engagement (random people working group)
- Focus on: 🚗 transport, ✈️ flights, 🥩 animal-based foods, and 🔥 home heating
Things to consider when nudging behavior change
- Timing of intervention (habit discontinuity hypothesis)
- Right messenger
- remove barrier
