What is an underlying assumption?
It is the logical link that fills the gap between the evidence and the claim
They are implicit or explicit principles that form the bases of our beliefs & reasoning
Tell us whether evidence provided for a claim is relevant
What are reality assumptions?
They are our beliefs about reality; about the way things are
What are value assumptions?
They are our ideals, our standards of right and wrong, the way things aught to be

What are the values of managers?
Self respect and security are the top-ranked terminal values according to corporate managers.
Truthfulness and dependability are their top-ranked instrumental values
What are terminal values?
They are values that are inherent with the occupation
What are instrumental values?
They are values that are useful for those who participate in the business
What is vision?
Vision provides guidance about what core to preserve, and what future to stimulate progress toward
What is the core ideology?
It is the enduring character of an organization - a consistent identity that transcends product or market life cycles, technological breakthroughs, management fads, and individual leaders. Glue that holds the organization together.
What are core values?
They are essential and enduring tenets; small set of timeless guiding principles; beliefs about what is important
What is the core purpose?
The organization’s reason for being; the idealistic motivations for doing the company’s work; capture the soul of the organization
How is the core ideology created? What is it?
The core ideology is not created, it already exists. It is something that needs to be meaningful and inspirational only to people inside the organization.
Can people come to fit the core ideology or do they need to be predisposed to it?
Organizations need to find people who are predisposed to share the organization’s core values and purpose
What is BHAG?
It is the Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals
What are the characteristics of BHAGs?
10-30 years
Powerful way to stimulate progress
Clear & compelling; serves as unifying focal point of effort; acts as a catalyst for team spirit
Takes little or no explanation
