Session 4B - Non-reproductive features of the perineum Flashcards
What is the acetabulum?
the socket of the hipbone, into which the head of the femur sits
What is the obturator foramen?
the large opening created by the ischium and pubis of the pelvis, through which nerves and blood vessels pass
Describe the axis of the pelvic cavity?
it is anterolateral-inferiolrly inclined
Describe the shape of the pelvic cavity
conical/cylindrical
What muscle and its fascia cover the pelvic bone facing the pelvic cavity?
obturator muscle and its fascia
What 2 muscles attach to the medial surface of the greater trochanter of the femur?
obturator interns muscle
piriformis muscle
Describe the levator ani
main muscle of the pelvic floor/diaphragm
bowl-like pari pf skeletal muscles
support the pelvic viscera
Structurally, what is the perineal membrane?
inferior layer of fascia of the urogenital part of the pelvic diaphragm
What is the ductus/vas deferens?
a tiny muscular tube that makes up part of the male reproductive system
carries sperm from the epididymis to the ejaculatory ducts
NOTE: there is a pair of these ducts in the males body
What re the 2 sphincters of the urinary bladder, and what kind of muscle are they made of?
- smooth muscle sphincter at the neck (vesicae)
- skeletal muscle sphincter in the perineum (urethrae)
What are 3 parts of the external anal sphincter?
deep
superficial
subcutaneous
Name the layers of fat and fascia covering the kidneys
kidneys renal capsule perirenal fat renal fascia pararenal fat
Give the order of drainage of the kidneys
renal pyramids -> minor calyces -> major calyces -> renal pelvis -> ureter
