Session 4 ILOs - The Lower limb 2 Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the anatomy of the contents of the femoral sheath
A
The femoral sheath is the fascial space that extends from the abdomen, inferior to the inguinal ligament, into the femoral triangle.
The femoral sheath contains:
- Femoral artery
- Femoral vein (with a branch of the great saphenous vein)
- Empty space to allow for venous expansion
- Femoral canal (deep lymph nodes and vessels)
The femoral nerve is free and is not within the sheath
2
Q
Describe the anatomy of the contents of the femoral triangle, including the borders
A
The femoral triangle is a wedge-shaped area located at the super-medial aspect of the anterior thigh
The femoral triangle contains: (lateral) - Femoral nerve - Femoral artery - Femoral vein (plus empty space) - Femoral canal (deep lymph nodes and vessels) (medial)
Borders: Roof - fascia lata Floor - pectineus, iliopsoas and adductor longus Superior boder - inguinal ligament Lateral boder - sartorius Medial boder - adductor longus
