Session 3 - GFR and Filtration Flashcards
1
Q
What is the blood supply to the kidney?
A
Renal artery (to hilum)
2
Q
What does the renal artery divide into?
A
Segmental arteries.
3
Q
What are the arteries called between the lobes of the kidney?
A
Interlobar arteries.
4
Q
Where are the arcuate arteries and interlobular arteries found?
A
Arcuate = arch over the lobes. Interlobular = penetrating arteries into the renal cortex.
5
Q
List the succesion blood vessles from the renal artery, back to the renal vein!
A
- Renal Artery
- Segmental artery
- Lobular artery
- Arcuate artery
- Interlobular artery
- Afferent arteriole
- Glomerulus
- Efferent arteriole
- Peritubular capillaries
> Interlobular vein > Arcuate vein > Lobular vein > Segmental vein > Renal vein
6
Q
What are the two types of nephrons?
A
Cortical Nephron (70-80%) - Loop of Henle is short (cortex)
Juxtamedullary Nephron (much fewer)
- Glomerulus sits just above medullary boundry.
- Loop of henle very long, penetrates deep down into medulla.
7
Q
How are the peritubular capillaries different in juxtamedullary nephrons?
A
- Arranged much more.
- Two renal vessels that run parallel to the loop of henle.
Vasa Recta
8
Q
What is normal renal blood flow?
A
Around 1.1 L/min
9
Q
What is the normal plasma flow in the kidney?
A
45% blood = RBC
1.1 L/min x 0.55 (plasma) = 605 mL/min
