Session 2 Flashcards
What are the different poles of the renal corpuscle?
Vascular pole where the arterioles enter and leave
Urinary pole for the Bowman’s capsule
What produces the filtration barrier?
The visceral layer of the Bowmans capsule (podocytes)
Basement membrane - negative to repel protein movement, permeable to small proteins
Capillary endothelium
What does the PCT look like histologically?
Simple cuboidal epithelium with pronounced brush border membrane.
What are the parts of the loop of Henle?
Pars recta
Thin descending limb
Thin ascending limb
Thick descending limb
What does the LoH look like histologically?
No brush border
Thin - simple squamous
Thick - simple cuboidal (active transport)
What does the DCT look like histologically?
No brush border and a larger lumen compared to PCT
What does the juxtaglomerular apparatus consist of?
Macula dense of the DCT
Juxtaglomerular cells of afferent arterioles
Extraglomerular mesangial cells
What do the collecting ducts look like histologically?
Similar to thick LoH but lumen is larger and less circular
Describe the ultra structure of the ureters
Lined with urothelium - transitional epithelium with umbrella cells on the surface to make it impermeable
Two layers of muscle with a third in the lower 1/3.
Describe the ultrastructure of the bladder
3 layers of muscle and is lined with an outer Adventitia.
