Focus is on understanding and clinical reasoning rather rote learning of facts
Students not expected to memorise entire biochemical pathways! But do need to know: • What the pathway does • Why it is important • What feeds in • What feeds out • Key control enzymes • How these enzymes are controlled
{we do want you to have an overview of how metabolism works – big picture view of how all the pathways fit together
- what it does in whole of metabolism (its function)
- substrate
- products.
- rate limiting enzymes of pathway – if we want you to know an enzyme – that will be highlighted on the slide.
Read pre-reading review article to give you overview/big picture we’re expecting you to get – 10 mins to read - big pic overview of how we derive energy from metabolic pathways used to catabolise food molecules that we eat.}
