Can be palpated, carefully, using finger and thumb either side of neck midline … and moving gently from side to side
The thyroid cartilage

The cricoid cartilage
Palpate
The carotid pulse (one side only at a time)
Palpate one side only at a time!
Thyroid gland (its two lateral lobes and the isthmus)
While not actually palpable if normal but you need ot know ‘where’ it is located!
Internal jugular vein
Draw a line on the neck indicating the route as it descends the length of the neck
External jugular vein
Draw a line on the neck indicating the route as it descends the length of the neck

The external jugular vein can become readily visible when intrathoracic pressure rises e.g. strianing.
