What is important to remember about HLA-B27
Only a minority of HLA-B27 positive patients develope spondyloarthritis
What is Ankylosing Spondylitis?
Chronic inflammatory disease of the spine and sacro-illiac joints which can lead to eventual fusion of joints
Who gets ankylosing spondylitis?
Males betweem the ages of 20-40
What test can measure spine flexion?
Schober’s test
How do you preform Shobbers test?
Measure 10 cm above and 5cm below the posterior superior illiac crest.
When they bend over this should extend to 20cm
Which non Joint symptoms are found in ankylosing spondylitis?
Uveitis
Aortitis
Pulmonary fibrosis

What is amyloidosis?
deposistion of abnormal protiens around the body
What would you find in an Xray of a person with ankylosing spondylitis?
Sclerosis and fusion of sacroilliac joints
Bony spurs from the vertable bodies known as syndesmophytes
Fusion of intervertebral discs resulting in bamboo spine

What are the treatment options of Ankylosing Spondylitis?
Phsyio
NSAIDs

What is Enteropathic arthritis?
Inflammatory arthritis affecting peripheral joints and sometimes spine which is associated with IBD
How do you treat enteropathic arthritis?
Usually you find a drug that can treat the IBD and the arthritis at the same time

Arthritis in response to infection of another part of the body
