Series circuits Flashcards
What is a series circuit?
A circuit in which the components are arranged in a chain.
Describe current in a series circuit.
Current is constant across all components.
How do we calculate the current in a series circuit?
I₁ = I₂ = I₃…
Describe the p.d. in a series circuit.
The sum of the voltages across components is equal to the total p.d supplied by the battery.
How do we calculate the p.d. in a series circuit?
Total V = V₁ + V₂…
Describe the resistance in a series circuit.
The total resistance is the sum of the individual resistors.
How do we calculate the resistance in a series circuit?
Total Resistance = R₁ + R₂
What are series circuits used for?
Used when all the components have to be on/off at the same time, b/c it’s more power-efficient.
