Series and Parallel circuits [Hard] Flashcards
Explain how calculating a mean increases the accuracy of the data?[2]
Calculating a mean reduces random error[1]
The mean value is closer to the true value[1]
What kind of effect an anomalous would have on the mean?
The anomalous would move the mean away from the true value
Identify the relationship between the mean total resistance and the number of resistors in a parallel[2]
As the number of resistors in a parallel increases the mean total resistance decreases. [1]
This shows the relationship is inversely proportional. [1]
If you add more resistors, it’s like giving the water (electricity) more paths to flow through.
With more pipes (resistors), it becomes easier for the water to flow, so the total resistance becomes smaller.
Explain the benefits of connecting the heating element in a hob?[4]
A hob in a kitchen is the flat surface on top of a stove and it has heating elements that provide to heat or cook your food.
More current will flow in each heating element when more than one is used.[1]
Because the total resistance is lower.[1]
Each element can be turned on and off independantly [1]
Because a switch can be placed on each branch.[1]
Explain why touching the live wire would cause an electric shock[4]
The live wire has a potential of 230V
The person has a potential of 0V
Therefore there is large potential diffrence between the live wire and the person.
Which could cause the current to pass through the person’s body.
Describe how an earth wire acts as a safety feature? [4]
The earth wire is connected to the metal casing.
This provides a lower resistance path to the earth.
If the casing becomes live
Then there is large current in the earth wire.
