What did Ivan the fifth do?
he murdered many nobles and gave their lands to his supporters. his supporters needed serfs (slaves )
What were serfs’s lives like?
They had their own houses and a small plot of land to farm, but they had to pay the landlord rent.
Who freed the serfs, and why?
1861, Czar Alexander the second freed them because he wanted them to work in he industry and help modernise Russia
