Sequlae of Thrombosis Flashcards
Pathological consequence of an event
Sequlae
6 sequlae of thrombosis
- Resolution
- Organization
- Recanalization
- Propagation
- Infarction
- Embolism
LEAST DANGEROUS sequlae but may develop into another thrombosis…. (Transient Ischemic Attack)
Thrombus DISAPPEARS due to high FIBRINOLYTIC/TIA function in blood
Resolution
Phagocytic digestion of thrombosis 2-3 days after it forms; replaced by CONNECTIVE TISSUE
Organization
Reorganization leads to formations of canals within thrombus/CREATION of several vessels WITHIN VESSELS canals formation of of endothelial cells around thrombus
RECANALIZATION
ENLARGEMENT of thrombus (size) in areas open to clotting factors and their activation…. usually in VEINS where flow is slow and are bifurcations
PROPAGATION
*major propagation in leg veins
Process infarct is formed
INFARCTION
Infarct develops in tissues that have ONE blood vessel supply
WHITE INFARCT
Heart…. coronary artery
Infarct with tissue supplied by 2 blood vessels
RED INFARCT
Lungs… pulmonary a, bronchial a
Region of necrosis caused by oxygen deficiency (ischemia)
INFARCT
Myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke affect which organs?
MyoCARDIal infarction- heart
ISCHEMIC strike- brain
Most common infarction
Myocardial infarction
