Q

Explain when mind wandering (conceptual) lead to unhappiness and when it may not and the role of mindfulness in this situation?

A

Mind wandering will lead to unhappiness when worry or stress creates a destructive, constructive mindset.

Mind wandering will lead to happiness when using it to learn, reminisce, plan and dream

maintaining mindfulness is allowing negative thoughts to pass by instead of engaging in the negative thought.

16
Q

Draw and describe the model of attention

A

Attention + ( conceptual + Experimental) = skillful responding

17
Q

Describe the story of Two Wolves and how it relates to mindfulness

A

One of the most crucial lessons hidden in the Native American story of two wolves is the the fact that you have more power over your happiness than you think you do. In this world, it’s easy to get beaten down by your circumstances, especially when they’re not what you expected but it is your choice which you will abide by

18
Q

In what ways is mindfulness a state, process and skill

A

state - of being present in the moment (no mind wander)

process - paying attention moment to moment

skill - trainable quality we can all learn

19
Q

What are the common components of mindfulness?

A

mindfulness is:
-the intentional deployment of attention
-awareness and attention
-a state, skill and process
-an attitudinal quality
- effort and practice
- has an ethical component

20
Q

What is awareness and how can it be distinguished from attention?

A

Awareness - ground upon which things are perceived

Attention - choosing the figures from the ground and inspecting them

21
Q

What characterizes the attitudinal quality of mindfulness?

A

Open, non-judgmental inclusiveness to whatever comes up

equanimity ( level-headedness)

curiosity

to be mindful is to be accepting as we meet difficult experiences with less resistance

22
Q

What is the formula for suffering?

A

suffering = pain x resistance

23
Q

In what way does mindfulness involve effort?

A

because it is an ongoing practice

24
Q

What sort of things are NOT mindfulness?

A

mindfulness is not a guarantee to:
- lesser suffering
- enhancing joy
-increasing compassion
- creating the conditions for living a meaningful life

(kinda like expecting nothing bad will happen to you just because you pray. life events good or bad are inevitable)
