What happens in the contraction stage of pregnancy?
Begins with contractions 10-20 minutes apart.
Ends when cervix is fully dilated (10cm)
It takes 8-14 hours
Contractions become closer together and more intense (1-2 mins apart)
What are the 3 stages of pregnancy?
- Contraction until cervix is fully dilated.
- Delivery of the baby
- Delivery of placenta
What happens in the delivery stage of pregnancy (3 things)?
Begins when cervix is fully dilated and effaced
Mother helps contractions by pushing
Takes about 30 minutes usually.
When must the delivery of placenta stage take place?
Minutes after the birth.
Say three things about the babies experience during birth
Stress hormones keep the babies heart rate and oxygen to his brain
The baby is born ready to breathe
Passage through birth canal helps expel mucus from breathing passages
Say three reflexes the baby has and what they are!
- The rooting reflex.
- The moro reflex
- Sucking reflex
Babies sleep more in REM state then do adults. what is REM sleep good for when it comes to development?
It is good for learning
