Very young or very old
Other comorbidities:
- Diabetic
- Serious liver disease
- leukemia (immunocompromised)
- Malnourished
Medication:
- Organ transplant (anti-rejection drug)
- Long-term steroids/drugs to treat cancer
Change in body condition:
- Have an infection/post-op
- Pregnant/just given birth
Severe Sepsis Definition
Sepsis + at least one of the below
* Significantly decreased urine output
* Abrupt change in mental status
* Decrease in platelet count
* Difficulty breathing
* Abnormal heart pumping function
* Abdominal pain
HIV Transmission
Body fluid & Sexual contact
Transmit:
Blood
Semen
Breast milk
Vaginal/cervical secretions
Cerebral spinal fluid
Do not Transmit:
Tear
Saliva
Vomit
Urine
Stool
