Q

Why do patients who develop sepsis have hypotension?

A

increased capillary permiability

results in fluid shift out of vessels, thus causes intravascular volume depletion

Q

When a patient is ?sepsis, what are the steps that should be taken within the “golden hour”?

A
  1. adminsiter high flox oxygen if sats are low. use reservoir mask
  2. Take and send blood cultures
  3. Administer broad spectrum IV antibiotics
  4. If patient is hypotensive, administer IV crystalloid fluids.
  5. Check lactate levels
  6. If patient remains hyp, administer vassopressers
  7. Monitor urine output hourly
