What is filtration?
A method for separating an insoluble solid form a liquid
What is crystallisation?
A method used to evaporate a liquid and to retrieve a soluble solid
What is distillation?
A method used to separate a soluble solid from a solvent while collecting the solvent itself instead of letting it evaporate
What is fractional distillation?
It works the same as distillation but with a fractionating column which is a tall glass column filled with glass beads that allows the separation of substances with similar boiling points
What is paper chromatography?
a method which is used to separate substances from mixtures for us to identify. The more solvable a substance is in the solvent, the further up the paper it travels
What is the formula for Retention Factor ?
R = distance travelled by color/ distance travelled by water
