History Of The Atom Flashcards
Who did the first discovery on the atom and what was their discovery
Dalton, he discovered the atoms and thought they rearranged themselves and combined with other atoms
What was the plum pudding model?
It was s model created by Thompson who discovered electrons. He thought that the number of electrons = number of protons.
What was the difference between the nuclear model and the plum pudding model?
The nuclear model (discovered by Ruthford) showed that atoms had a positive charged nucleus and negatively charged electrons that surrounded the nucleus
Why did a few alpha particles bounce back from the gold foil?
This showed that the mass of an atom is found in the nucleus
Why did most of the alpha particles went straight through the gold foil, without any deflection?
This shows that the atoms are mostly spread out
Why did some alpha particles slightly deflect by the gold foil?
This shows that the nucleus of an atom is positively as is the alpha particles
What did Bohr discover?
The planetary model which showed that electrons orbited the nucleus in electron shells to prevent the electrons from collapsing
What did Chadwick discover?
The neutron
