Q

What is evaporation?

A

evaporation is when a liquid is boiled/heated and the liquid has turned into a gas, it is used to separate a soluble solid from a liquid.

What is distillation?

A

purifying a liquid by evaporating the liquid from the solid by heating and cooling to make it back into a liquid

9
Q

How are evaporation and distillation different?

A

evaporation is turning the liquid into a gas where as distillation is turning it into a gas and back into a liquid again

Q

Describe how to carry out filtration

A

use filtered paper in a funnel or any other filter and put your mixture in and it will let the liquid pass through and will leave the solids behind

Q

Why can’t you separate a solvent from a solute using filtration?

A

the solute will have dissolved in the solvent making the solid dissolve in the liquid make it a liquid too

Q

Describe how to carry out chromatography

A

get some sort of ink eg: felt tip or food colouring and put them on some paper. tie the paper to a pencil and put the pencil on a glass of water and let the paper just touch the paper and wait for the rusults

16
Q

Describe a trend of the group 1 elements

A

the reactivity of the group 1 elements increase as you go down the group because the atoms become larger

17
Q

Describe a trend of the group 7 elements

A

the group 7 become less volatile as you go down the group as the molecules become bigger and contain more electrons

18
Q

What is special about group 0?

A

group 0 is on the right, the last period and they are called noble gasses as they are all chemically unreactive
