Sentences
A complete idea with predicate and subject and at times the subject can be invisible.
4 types of sentences
- Declartive _ to declare something
- interrogative- ask a question
- imperative- command (no subject!)
- Exclamation = an expression (!)
Simple sentences
Simple sentence with one subject and predicate.
Compound sentences
has Fanboys(coordinating conjunctions) and comma
(two indep sentences that are joined )
complex sentences
When both a dep and indep sentence are put together maybe a comma
compound complex
When their are many deps and indeps sentences put together and the rules apply from plex and pound
Subject and predicate
subject- the nouns (perfroms the verb)
predicate- the verb and what goes into the verb
subjects, indirect objects and direct objects
indirect objects = when another person is involved ( getting the thing/verb)
direct object = the main thing being done
Phrases and clauses
phrase- not a full sentence (just parts of speech either a noun/verb but not both)
clause= a sentence has subject and verb and can be both ind and dep.
dep and indep clauses
indep is a sentence
dep clause cant stand on its own and has a subordinating conjunctions
reative clauses
a dep cluase that starts with a relative pronoun (we,which,that, whose, where) (kinda appositive )
double negatives
when their is many negative words together that the sentences don’t make sense
(i can’t get no motivation )
sentence completeness
when the sentences has a subject and predicate.
sentence agreement
when the nouns and verbs agree with sing, plural and poss
sentence reference
when the pronoun and nouns match up
