A
- Contains a subject and a verb
- Expresses a single complete thought that can stand on its own.
Eg. The baby cried for food
Subject- The baby

Eg. Miss Pownall’s students always complete their homework

Compound sentence
A
- Has 2 independent clauses
- Basically contains 2 simple sentences
Eg. The shoplifter had stolen clothes, so he ran from the police

Complex sentence
A
- Independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses.
- Always has a subordinating conjunction or relative pronoun
Eg. After eating lunch at the restaurant, Tim went to exercise at the gym.
Subordinating clause- After
Dependent clause- ‘After earring lunch at the restaurant’
Independent clause- ‘Tim went to exercise at the gym’
