  • Expresses a single complete thought that can stand on its own.

Eg. The baby cried for food
Subject- The baby
Verb- cried

Eg. Miss Pownall’s students always complete their homework

  • Has 2 independent clauses
  • Basically contains 2 simple sentences

Complex sentence

A
  • Independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses.
  • Always has a subordinating conjunction or relative pronoun

Eg. After eating lunch at the restaurant, Tim went to exercise at the gym.
Subordinating clause- After
Dependent clause- ‘After earring lunch at the restaurant’
Independent clause- ‘Tim went to exercise at the gym’
